Sigrid Tschöpe-Scheffler's enthusiasm for Africa, inspired by an aunt, was already awakened as a child. But it was later, much later, that she made her way to
Kenya. In Nairobi, she met the Kenyan boy Daniel (now a young man), whom the family had supported for many years, then she worked as a volunteer in a school project on Kilimandjaro with
Massai-People and traveled around the country. In a hotel in Mombasa she met Pastor Jonathan Maendeleo Kithi, who was working there as a waiter to support his family. Pastors in Kenya work on a
voluntary basis in their churches and usually have several jobs on the side to survive. The two got talking about gospel services and Jonathan invited her to his church for a service and to visit
his family and his village, which is in a very rural, poor area. Together in the village the people told her about their dream of having their own church, which would also serve as the center of
the village. There was a suitable plot of land for sale. But who would buy it? This was the start of Sigrid Tschöpe-Scheffler's very own journey.
